Koronis Funeral Home in Greece

In order for us to receive the remains of a deceased person from another country, the following actions must be taken:

1. We must be in touch with the family and/or the funeral directors who are involved in the country where the person has died. These directors usually do all the preparations and arrangements for shipping the person’s remains to Greece. The preparations include the paperwork and certifications needed by their local Greek Consulate.
2. Once ready, we need to receive a copy of all the documents (by email) which will accompany the deceased. This is necessary for us to properly prepare in order to receive the deceased when s/he arrives.
3. If the family has already selected a casket abroad, then we need to have the exact measurements of the casket itself in order for our office to carry out any and all arrangements with the cemetery. Alternatively, a casket can be purchased from our office in Greece.
4. If the family of the deceased already has a “family tomb” at a given cemetery, our office needs to know the details of its whereabouts as soon as possible. In all other cases, each municipality in Greece is responsible to provide a space for burial for a citizen registered in the same municipality. This space is typically rented for 3-4 years. After that time, the person’s remains must be exhumed. In areas outside of Athens, municipalities may also sell plots.
5. At this point our office will coordinate and notify various local authorities such as inbound Customs Office, relevant Government departments, Municipality, local Church, Cemetery and a local reception hall where the family may offer the traditional coffee or a meal after the burial.
6. When the deceased arrives (usually by plane), we pick him/her up from the airport (Customs) with our own transport vehicles along with the original documents accompanying the deceased.
7. Our office will then provide whatever care your loved one will need along with placement in a special area until the funeral is carried out.

Our office will undertake to make all the arrangements for the funeral of your loved person. We make extra efforts to organize everything and be with you (the family) throughout this difficult process without leaving you feeling that you are on your own even for a moment.  We handle funerals and/or burials anywhere in Greece. We take care of everything needed and ordered, thus providing the family with a worry-free opportunity to say their final goodbye to their loved one with the dignity and honour they deserve.

Along with the arrangements needed with the local municipality, church and cemetery, we also arrange to post the necessary funeral announcements (newspapers and neigbourhood), gracefully decorate the church with flowers and provide any wreaths ordered. We can also arrange to transport your guests to and from the cemetery if this has been pre-arranged.  At the end of the funeral procession, we can arrange on your behalf with a nearby banquet facility for the traditional coffee or meal.
